The Clutter Monster!

We all know from personal experience I'm sure, that clutter can be a very unwanted weight on our backs.

People, as busy as we all are with our unending 'to do' list, we still have to find the inspiration in our day that makes us want to take responsibility for the state of our home. We cant ignore it, no matter how busy we are. "Clutter is like pollution. It's all-pervasive: It's in your thoughts, in your way, in your space. It robs you of peace of mind and that feeling of being at home," says Kristie Demke, President of Professional Organizers in Canada.

First, let's define clutter:
1. to fill or litter with things in a disorderly manner: All kinds of papers cluttered the top of his desk.

Ignoring your kid as they color on the wall wont usually stop them in their tracks. So likewise, ignoring clutter as it invades your life wont stop the cycle! You have to deal with the problem head on. Taking responsibility is the first step. Consider this:

3 Easy Steps in managing clutter:

1. Acknowledge
Sometimes it is easier to train ourselves to avoid looking at the mess. We hide it so we dont have to acknowledge it. Well stop today! Acknowledge that the clutter monster exists in your home, and that is your first step!

2. Action
Once you're aware of the clutter in your home, you can then proceed to taking some serious action! Make the time. Consider it one of the many priorities you have on your list. If 2 1/2 minutes is all you have inbetween kiddy drama, then that is what we will use! That will be the most productive 2 1/2 minutes of clutter removal ever! Maybe you have to book it on the calandar and commit your hubby to watch the kids. Whatever your method, you must take action against the clutter monster.

3. Apathy
Apathy, is a lack of emotion or excitement. Once you've acknowledged the clutter monster, and taken action by cleaning it to it's death, you will experience a major pride high. You may even want to show everyone what you've done. (I'm like that) This is good! Allow yourself to be excited about your accomplishment. But dont stay too excited about that one clean drawer too long, move on to the next task. Keep your momentum! "Enthusiasm is the energy and force that builds literal momentum of the human soul and mind." Bryant H. McGill.

One more thought...

Dont ever be content with what you've done. Growth is a continual process. If we all grew to the height we are now, in one stage, our body wouldnt have been able to handle it. Thankfully for our physical body, growth is a process. Likewise here with our homes, our offices, our cars. It is a continual process. 1. We will always have to acknowledge that a new clutter monster has arrived. 2. We will always have to take some seriuos action. Clean that clutter monster! And 3. We will always have to fight apathy. Never let yourself be content with what you've accomplished. Growth is a process.
